Buy-In for Employees in an Independent Contracting Company

By Todd Liles Buy-In for Employees in an Independent Contracting Company

“An empowered organization is one in which individuals have the knowledge, skill, desire, and opportunity to personally succeed in a way that leads to collective organizational success.” -Stephen Covey

Everyday we work to create buy-in on many different levels whether it’s selling our ideas, our company value, or ourselves.  Creating buy-in success occurs on a larger scale for individuals working with an HVAC, plumbing, or electrical independent contracting company.  Inside an HVAC, plumbing, electrical independent contracting company, a buy-in must be created in relation to employees and clients.

In our post today, we will be focusing on the employee buy-in process.  When recruiting the right team members for your HVAC, plumbing, or electrical independent contracting company, it is important that each potential employee is genuinely sold on these 3 important aspects:

-You- In order to recruit and keep the best team members for your HVAC, plumbing, electrical independent contracting company there will need to be a personal buy-in for both parties– independent contracting company and employee.  When both the employer and employee have built mutual trust and rapport then there is a means to further build strong team retention.  In most cases, it is a gradual process of learning about each other through everyday interaction and from everyday situations.  When an employee gets a better picture of the independent contracting company culture and the employer begins to better understand the employee’s personality then reevaluation can occur to better suit both parities for growth and success inside the independent contracting company.  It is important for an HVAC, plumbing, or electrical independent contracting company team to be strong from within so that the best form of communication, teamwork, and skills can be developed to help drive success and organization inside the company as well as promote growth and retention when outwardly marketing to potential customers.

-Your Company- Along with creating a strong personal and mutual buy-in from both the employee and the employer, it is also vital that team members have a solid, overall independent contracting company buy-in.  It is important for employees to be fully immersed into an HVAC, plumbing, or electrical independent company’s daily work “culture.”  Independent contracting Ccmpany culture is the daily interaction between coworkers, the manner in which issues are resolved, or the intensity (“laid-back” or “high pressure”) of the work mode.  New team members must see the company culture as positive, encouraging, comfortable, and beneficial to their needs as an employee before complete buy-in can occur.  Management must continually regulate the daily culture inside of a work environment in order to keep it constructive and positive.  To retain the best team members for the company, employees must have a solid buy-in on the independent contracting company’s culture, mission, values, and provision of service.  When a company’s service team truly believes in the unique and excellent nature of their company’s vision and services, it will be apparent to homeowners when team members meet with them on a sale call or speak with them on the phone.  Customers are more likely to invest in a service company where they know employees have total company buy-in.

-Your Services and Products- It is also crucial that coworkers believe in the value and excellent quality of the services and products offered within their HVAC, plumbing, electrical independent contracting company.  This may come with time as a new employee begins to see and learn the benefits of what the company has to offer.  A company’s leadership team should work to create employee buy-in on their company’s services and products by providing training, making time to answer questions, as well as thoroughly explaining the benefits of their products and services.  When team members believe that their independent contracting company offers the best services, repair options, and replacement selections then it makes generating leads, selling add-ons, promoting scheduled service plans, and making sales a more natural and comfortable process.

Retention of great employees is the means to building a strong independent contracting company team.  When building your strong team, it is important to focus on growing personal trust, building company value, and detailing the unique nature of your services and products.  Recruiting employees and building coworker cohesion is an important part of business success in the independent contracting world and it should occur on a continual basis.  Here at Service Excellence Training, we have great resources and materials on employee retention, so let us walk with you through the learning process.  Thanks for following our weekly posts.  Here at Service Excellence Training, we turn learning into earning!
