Energy During The Grind

For a lot of you, the beginning of summer means an increase in business and busy schedules for the whole team. In this time of absolute grind, it can be easy to overwork yourself and hit a wall. How can you make sure that this increase in activity doesn’t burn out your energy levels?

Here are some tips and concerns you should pay attention to this summer to maintain your high energy and make high contributions to your business!

Nutrition

It’s a tale as old as time: when we get busy, we eat what’s available and what’s quick. You’re on the go and need food in a timely manner, so you jump in a fast food line. Not only is this food not healthy for you, the lines around lunch time might have you wasting 30 or 40 minutes of your day — and that’s if you can wait through the line and actually get food!

A great solution to this problem is packing your lunch everyday. You may feel old school or like you’re back in elementary school, but it works. You can control what food is going into your body and you can eat in a timely manner between calls. Plus, if you stretch your lunch out across a longer period by eating parts of your lunch at different times, you may find that your energy is stretched out longer.

Create Space In Your Schedule

If you do happen to get a lunch break set aside, or you have a few minutes before your next call, use them wisely! Turn off the radio, turn off your phone, kick back and really try to relax. Close your eyes and let your mind reboot for a couple minutes. Those few moments of rest and escape could recharge your energy for the rest of the day.

Avoid Large Alcohol Consumptions

Yes, we all are free to do what we want in our time off, and a beer in the evening won’t do you harm. However, consuming a lot of alcohol affects how well you sleep. If you are consistently consuming alcohol at the end of the day, you may find it’s more difficult to go to sleep or get a full night’s rest. This can affect how energized you feel in the morning and throughout the day.

Tips For Owners

Owners or managers have even more responsibility to watch out for their technicians. Keep these things in mind to help keep your team as energized as possible.

  • Limit On Call Rotations — Don’t schedule the same technician on call every weekend!
  • Occasional Mandatory Long Weekend — Give your team something to look forward to with an extra day of relaxation.
  • Avoid Putting Employees On Standby — Either schedule then for emergency call service or don’t.
  • Guarantee Sleep — Emergency calls from late the night before should mean that technician goes out on their first call the next day a little later in the morning.
