Here’s a story about a friend of mine who perfectly exemplifies the radical transformation so many of our clients undergo.
I met this friend of mine when he was starting his business and needed help closing sales for HVAC replacement systems. He came to our training in St. Louis for several days. Years later, he confided to me while we were visiting at a leadership conference in Mexico that he had been experiencing significant hardship during that first class in St. Louis.
Unable to afford a hotel room, he slept in his car during the multi-day training. He grabbed extra cereal bars and other snacks from the provided breakfasts and lunches to eat for dinner and cleaned up in the bathroom every day.
Sitting in an all-inclusive resort with my successful friend, I was astonished to hear that he had experienced such hardship. He had grown so much in only a few years! His story is one of radical transformation, perfectly exemplifying the sacrifices many entrepreneurs make to accomplish their business goals. He did what he had to for his business, and today his self-determination and willingness to learn have made him a successful business owner.
So many success stories begin in a place of hardship. I myself began Service Excellence with a number of them. When I started this company, my daughter was in the ICU fighting for her life, I was being sued by a multi-billion dollar corporation and all the expenses were quickly eating through my savings. With a combination of fortitude and faith, Service Excellence has grown into a company that helps other entrepreneurs defeat their own struggles.
