Plumber Changes His Life After Training

From a Fabricator in Alaska to a $500,000 a year Champion Plumber.

This is the Transformation Story of Brody Kolbeck.


My name is Brody Kolbeck. I have been working in the Plumbing trades for 5 years.  In 2018, I sold and installed $504,742 in Plumbing Services.

Before I met Todd and Service Excellence Training, I was a Fabricator in Alaska. I built processing plants for the commercial fishing industry. I spent my days and nights away from my family in Seattle. It was a hard job that almost destroyed my health and my marriage. It got really ugly!

The decision became clear when I found out my wife was pregnant. There was no way I was going to let her raise our girl by herself.

I needed a change. I needed to get my life back. I needed to be a father and a husband. So, I moved back to Seattle. I knew plumbing could pay well if I found the right place.

Starting at Steve’s Plumbing

In 2015, I was hired by Steve Egner. I was already working as an apprentice for another company, but I fought hard to get on at Steve’s because of his great reputation. Skills were not a problem, because my time at the processing plant gave me a strong foundation as a mechanical worker.

But it did nothing to prepare me for customer service! See, I’ve always had a genuine fear of public speaking. There wasn’t much need to talk to people when working in a processing plant. That’s one of the reasons why I went to Alaska; fewer people to talk to.

However, residential plumbing is a different story. You have to be great at customer service and communicating solutions to a client. Which meant, I had to get over my fear of public speaking if I was going to be good, much less great.

I needed my life back, so I bit the bullet and answered an ad with Steve’s Plumbing. Thankfully, Steve saw something in me that I didn’t see in myself.

Training with Todd and Service Excellence Training

On my first day, Steve introduced me to Todd Liles and Service Excellence Training. He knew that what I was learning in Todd’s classes would have a positive effect on my mindset. Steve knew that as he prepared me to be a Licensed Plumber, he also had to prepare me to be a Service Professional. He had to help me overcome my personal fears.

The very first Wednesday I met Todd, he had me do my very first roleplay! I choked. But Todd graciously guided me through the process. He encouraged me and kept me moving forward.

 

Together, Todd and Steve taught me the Principles of PRESS PLAY.

They showed me how to:

  • Build Real Relationships with Clients
  • Overcome my Fear of Communications
  • And to Understand that Selling is Actually Serving!

The classes took the pressure off me.

The PRESS PLAY program just makes sense for a person like me that wants to help people and isn’t comfortable “selling them.”

Steve and Todd believed in me. They had confidence in me. That’s why Steve invested in my education and sent me to the PRESS PLAY for Techs with Service Excellence Training. I had a good foundation of training because of our online programs with Todd. The classroom event with Terry in Texas just took my skills to the next level.

The Training Works, BIG TIME!

After training, I had my best week in Plumbing Service!  The training works, and it keeps working. I did over $500,000 in 2018, and I’m tracking to do over $600,000 in 2019.

My goal is to just keep getting better every year. I know I can do it!

I’m going to be going back this year as a refresher. I’m ready to continue my education and turn learning into earning.

My advice to anyone that wants to:

  • Overcome their fear of “selling”
  • Improve their personal life, and be able to
  • Support their family like never before (it’s worked for me!)

These guys never try to teach you to push things the client doesn’t need or like. You won’t learn how to be a douche sales person at SET. Instead, you will learn how to give options and solutions that the client actually needs and wants.

The program has been life-changing for my family and me.  Marina and Harper are glad to have me in their lives. I’m happy to be able to provide them with the lifestyle they deserve! I want to thank Steve and Rachel for believing in me and investing in me.
