Hi! I’m Matthew Barbosa and I’m a Business Coach and Trainer here at Service Excellence.

The foundation of my knowledge and experience in the trades started early in my youth at my Dad’s HVAC & plumbing company in Dallas, TX. With over 11 years of professional HVAC/plumbing experience, I have been in thousands and thousands of homes, across dozens of states, and I’ve worn every hat one can wear in an HVAC and plumbing business.

My earliest memories involve crawling on rectangular ductwork painting mastic on joints. As a young kid, it was not uncommon to go with Dad on job sites right after a Saturday morning soccer game. I’ll have to check, but I’m pretty sure I still hold the Carrollton/Farmers Branch Youth Soccer record for most goals in a season while wearing a mastic-stained uniform!

I’ve been in the hot attics, soaked in sweat and covered in itchy insulation hooking up duct runs. I’ve been on the 3am service calls as a licensed plumber.  I’ve been at the kitchen table for replacement sales, selling more than $2 million per year for the last 4 years. I’ve been on the ACCA Mix Group trips representing the family business and helping others grow, adapt, and evolve. Through those experiences and with my insatiable curiosity and passion for learning, I have built a wide range of valuable knowledge and experience. I am driven to use that knowledge and experience to help technicians, salespeople, and business owners maximize their abilities.

Here’s some things about me:

  • I’m the second youngest of 5 kids and have a huge, Texas-sized family. They are my favorite people on the planet!
  • I’m a real S.O.B. (son of a business owner) my dad’s HVAC/Plumbing biz in Dallas has been going strong for over 42 years.
  • I’m a Texas A&M graduate – Gig ’em!
  • After college, I taught middle school in Chicago at the same school that Duke basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski played for as a kid.
  • I’ve been a licensed journeyman plumber since 2016.
  • In 2017 I went through PRESS PLAY for sales.
  • 2018 was my first year in a full-time sales role and I sold over $2M in residential HVAC replacements.
  • I have completed 4 marathons.
  • I follow just about all sports but especially love football and soccer.
  • I love photography (currently shoot with a Sony a7rIV).
  • One of my goals is to write a book about the family-owned HVAC/Plumbing business.
