Success Requires Discipline

We all have those moments in life when we are offered a choice to be better. Sometimes they are big choices – choices that drastically change where we are in life. But most times we have to face a series of small choices, small forks in the road every day. 

I often like to refer to stories that have radical transformation in them – people who have come so insanely far from where they once were. But this radical change doesn’t happen overnight. It takes work. It takes time. It takes choosing to be better every single day.

Small steps take you far

When we’re faced with these little choices, it can be difficult to embrace change. The place we are at currently in life is often the most familiar and comfortable, so it’s hard to move in a different direction. We hate change. 

But becoming a better person requires us to choose better and different paths.

We need to challenge ourselves, even when we don’t want to, to do better and achieve more. Taking small consistent steps every day toward what you want will get you further than you can imagine. 

You can always change direction

It’s important to take stock of your life periodically to make sure you’re going in the right direction. It’s really easy to get distracted by new things that may lead you down a side path – and that’s okay! 

Your path to success is not going to be a straight line. 

It doesn’t matter how many turns and curves it has, it’s about pursuing the end goal. When your life changes, so can your goals. But keep pushing forward one step at a time. 

Evaluate whether your current actions are going to move you in the right direction. 

Control where you walk

Eventually you must accept responsibility for your choices and actions. You are the one who sets your goals, and you are the one walking towards them. You need to intentionally choose the moments where you make yourself better. 

When you start to take control of your ambition you will understand that the discipline you must force on yourself does ultimately lead to success and joy. And through that you will feel joy in discipline. 

Start walking toward success
