Your Top Tech and Your Average Tech Are Not the Same
Your top tech books big jobs week after week. Your average tech books a fraction of that. Same trucks. Same leads. Same customers, walking through the same front doors.
The gap isn’t some technical skill. It’s what happens after the diagnosis.
Most techs can find the problem. That’s not where calls fall apart. They fall apart in the conversation. The tech has to explain the problem. Show the customer what it means. Help them make a decision about their own home.
That’s not a sales problem. It’s a communication problem. And it’s fixable.
The Tech Series is built on a simple belief: great service is the best thing a tech can deliver. When a tech communicates clearly and earns trust, more customers say yes. Not because they were sold. Because they were served well.
What the Tech Series Is
A six-week online course for field service technicians in HVAC, plumbing, and electrical.
Each week, your tech joins a live online session built around real in-home scenarios. No theory. No generic customer-service fluff. Just a clear, field-tested system for the conversation that happens after the diagnosis. And the practice to deliver it with confidence.
Format: Weekly live-online sessions
Duration: Six weeks
Pricing: Per company, per course
What Gets Covered, Week by Week
1
The Checklist and the Colors
Every finding gets a label. Red is broken, unsafe, or causing damage. Yellow is maintenance, failing parts, or enhancements. Green is working well. Techs learn why showing the Green items matters as much as explaining the Red ones. Trust gets built when the customer sees the full picture, not just the bad news.
2
Building Options from the Checklist
Techs learn to build a range of choices from their findings. Not “here’s what’s wrong and here’s the price.” Four distinct options, built from the bottom up. That gives the customer the information and confidence to make the right decision for their home.
3
The Prescription Pyramid
A five-step communication framework that moves a customer from awareness of the problem to a confident decision. No pressure. No jargon. The tech never has to feel like they’re pushing. When the foundation is built right, the next step feels obvious.
4
Presenting Findings in Customer Language
Techs practice turning technical findings into plain language. When a homeowner can understand what’s happening, they trust it more. No jargon. Just clear, honest explanations tied back to what the customer told the tech at the door.
5
Presenting Options
Top-down delivery. Techs start with the Professional Recommendation and let the customer choose the path. They practice presenting all four options with confidence. They ask for the decision clearly. Then they give the customer space to respond.
6
Master Class: The Full Process
Techs run the complete process from diagnosis to final ask. They also practice handling resistance by returning to the framework rather than backing off or pushing harder.
What the Owner Will Actually See
A tech who finishes the course walks into the home with a system. They know how to present their findings. They can explain why it matters in plain language. And they offer a clear path forward. The expert advisor, not the pushy salesperson.
What that produces, in our experience:
- Higher close rates across the team, not just from the top tech
- Higher average tickets, because premium options get presented with confidence
- More consistent in-home experiences, which show up in review scores and referrals
- A narrower gap between your best performer and everyone else
Who This Is For
The Tech Series is the right fit if:
- Your techs are technically strong but inconsistent in the customer conversation
- You have newly licensed techs who haven’t been trained on the in-home experience beyond the diagnosis
- You have veteran techs who are good, but have never been given a clear framework for how they communicate
- You’re tired of the performance gap between your best tech and everyone else on the truck
Who it’s not for: Techs who already run a consistent, documented in-home process on every call. If the system is already there, this course isn’t the right next step.

Frequently Asked Questions
My techs are going to think this is sales training. How do I position it?
Call it what it is: communication training. This course teaches techs how to explain their findings. How to present options clearly. How to talk to customers the way an expert should. Nothing in it asks a tech to be someone they’re not.
My techs are busy. Can they keep up with a six-week course?
One live session a week. The format is built for working techs, not a classroom. The skills they learn are applied to real calls between sessions. That’s where the learning actually sticks.
What’s the participant limit?
Up to 12 participants per sprint. If you have more than 12 people who need the same training, we’d suggest either running two separate sprints or exploring whether the open-enrollment series works for part of the group.
We already do ride-alongs. Isn’t that enough?
Ride-alongs are a diagnostic. They show you where the gaps are. They don’t close them. This course builds the skills to close them. The two work well together. If you want a field-level read before or after the course, take a look at our Frontline Ride-Along Evaluation.
Does the course actually pay for itself?
One additional premium ticket per tech per week typically covers the course. Most owners see the return well before the six-week mark.
