In-Home Service and the Coronavirus

This week on the podcast, Chris Elmore and Chris Loudermilk discuss the most current event – the Coronavirus. They give their insights and what they recommend form a customer service perspective. Remember that this is just opinion based on experience. It isn’t intended to replace your company policy or any other authority. Here are 5 things to remember during this time:

Protect Yourself

If you aren’t healthy you can’t help others. Make sure you are using the safety items you have available: gloves, masks, floor savers, hand sanitizer, etc. Follow your company policy. Don’t cut corners on this.

Protect Your Customers

There is a lot of uncertainty and panic right now. To ease that for your customers, make sure that your customers see you protecting yourself and them. Apply hand sanitizer in front of them. Put on the gloves in front of them before going into the house. Make sure you always wear floor savers. This will reassure them and show them you are doing your part for their safety.

Know Your Products

No matter the trade, there are products that are relevant to the issues people are facing from this virus. From air quality products to help with healthier air to water quality products for clean water for handwashing to the electrical components that make all of that work safely, you must know your products and what they actually do. Make sure that your product claims are accurate. Don’t put yourself in the position of appearing to prey on your customer’s fears. Read the product literature. Ask questions. Know your products and how they can enhance the health and safety of your clients during this period.

More Run-Time = More Breakdowns

Most people will be spending considerably more time in their homes over the next several weeks or months. This means that they will be using all of their systems much more than they do now. They’ll flush a lot more. They’ll use a lot more electricity powering devices to entertain, do schoolwork, and work from home. They’ll need to be comfortable so their HVAC will run more. All of this extra use means more run-time. More run-time means more breakdowns. The trades are an essential service and will be needed more than ever during this time.

It Won’t Last Forever

This is temporary. It’s hard to remember that with all the media attention and panic. Some lives and businesses will be affected forever, but most won’t. To most, this will be a temporary issue that we will face – and come through – together. We’ll be here with you. We’ll support you and your team through this.
