Matthew’s Story

Matthew is the son of a business owner, which molded who he is today. Some of his earliest memories are of crawling around on ductwork, fetching tools and doing tasks for workers on site and spending summers dragging water hoses through apartment buildings to rinse off condensers. 

He learned the industry thoroughly and eventually became a service technician and a licensed plumber. However, Matthew discovered that he really liked sales positions and ended up doing in-home residential sales as well. He even spent some time working as an educator.

He is grateful to his Dad for taking him under his wing and teaching him what the service trades are all about. Additionally, his unique background of growing up with a dad in the trades paired with being an educator has led to his new position at Service Excellence. Being able to give back to the industry and use all the skills he’s learned is his dream role. 

Matthew is a great example of how hard work and the right resources can revolutionize your life. His faith and dedication to the Service Excellence morals and work ethic make him a perfect coach. He even went to his own PRESS PLAY training in 2017, after which he eclipsed his sales goals!

Why is teaching at Service Excellence so important to you?

“There’s an analogy I really like: find the right seat on the bus. My bus is in the trades industry, and finding the right seat on that bus is hard. With my background and skills and experiences, I feel like this is the right seat for me. The gratitude I have for my dad and the things I’ve learned over the years makes me feel like this is my purpose and my destiny.”

What’s your favorite part about working with customers in their homes?

“I get to see really cool and beautiful homes. Plus, I’m a people person. I love to hear about what people do and what their quirks are. I’m just a curious guy, and being in people’s homes and talking with them satisfies that curiosity.”

Desert Island: Book, Bottle & Movie

You are stranded on a desert island, but you have ample food, water and a bible.

What one book would you bring?

The Boys In The Boat by Daniel James Brown, about the 1936 Olympics in Berlin. It’s a story of 9 Americans representing the U.S. in rowing at the Olympics and their journey through the events of the 1930s to earn gold. 

What one bottle would you bring?

Balvenie 12 Yr Doublewood. 

What one movie would you bring?

Good Will Hunting.
